Chakme:12Encountered Moments 11 October - 23 December 2026
Chakme

Galerie Dengyun is pleased to announce Chakme:12 Encountered Moments, a solo exhibition by Chakme, curated by Li Zhenhua. Featuring twelve cyanotype prints on stellera paper, the exhibition will be held at the gallery as a parallel presentation to 12 Meditation Chambers – Salt, the artist’s project at West Bund Art & Design 2026.
The exhibition will be on view from November 11th to December 23rd, 2026.
‘12 Meditation Chambers’ is a project conceived by Chakme, comprising twelve meditation spaces crafted from different materials. Together with his other work—a cyanotype print of stellera paper inspired by The Little Ring—they form an intriguing parallel universe. One is co-created by the artistic space and the participants; the other is a gift from the sun and the stellera plants.
Stellera paper is made from a natural material indigenous to the plateau and has been used for centuries. The plant’s mild toxicity diminishes during the papermaking process, while the resulting paper retains insect-repellent properties that have made it a medium for the transcription of sacred texts.
Developed in the early years of photography, cyanotype is distinguished by the tonal gradations it achieves within a single colour. Using sunlight to produce an impression, the process shares an affinity with reprography, translating images into monochrome prints at varying scales.
Presented across the gallery and the art fair, Chakme: 12 Encountered Moments and 12 Meditation Chambers – Salt unfold through distinct materials and modes of viewing, forming a twin constellation. Together, they bring natural time into relation with human perception, inviting viewers to pause and attend to the delicate interconnections between themselves and the world around them.
