Isaac Soh Fujita Howell

Isaac Soh Fujita Howell (b. 1993, Princeton, New Jersey) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He received a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2015 and an MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2017.

Howell’s practice focuses on scenes that are perpetually in motion, in which figures and architecture converge within intensely liminal spaces. Working within compressed interior settings, he explores the subtle negotiations among the body, intimacy, and the public realm. Uncertainty functions as a structural principle in his work, sustaining the openness of the image and the tension of its in-between state.
