Sula Bermúdez-Silverman

Sula Bermúdez-Silverman (b. 1993, New York) received a BA from Bard College and an MFA in Sculpture from the Yale School of Art. She lives and works in Los Angeles.

Through a conceptual and multidisciplinary practice, Bermúdez-Silverman investigates and critiques social structures by examining economic, racial, religious, and gendered systems of power. Her work addresses cultural exchange, early global trade, the origins of commodification, and economic hierarchies. It also considers forms of exchange ranging from the transmission of disease to the folktales that would later shape the identities of people in particular regions.
