Tom Wixo (b. 1991, Minnesota) lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Drawing on figures and iconic imagery from late-twentieth-century sports and popular culture, Wixo examines the visual tools used to construct the myth of “universal masculinity.” He deconstructs their underlying intentions while appropriating and reassembling their visual language. His paintings resist definitive interpretation, instead allowing the picture plane to function as a surface that holds uncertainty and invites viewers to confront its contradictions. Camouflage and repetition operate in his work both as metaphors and as methods, reflecting the human struggle to seek and construct meaning in a world saturated with interference and contradiction.
